A finger boutonniere splint is a medical device used to immobilize and support the finger, particularly when the central slip (a tendon in the finger) has been damaged or ruptured. This condition causes the middle joint of the finger (the proximal interphalangeal joint, or PIP joint) to bend inward, leading to a characteristic deformity called the "boutonniere" deformity. The splint helps to treat this condition by preventing further damage and allowing proper healing.

The splint is designed to:

• Keep the PIP joint straight (extended) while allowing the distal interphalangeal joint (DIP) to bend naturally.
• Protect the tendon and prevent the deformity from worsening.
• Promote healing and restore normal finger function over time.

• Material: Typically made of thermoplastic material, which can be molded to fit the shape of the finger.
• Design: The splint is worn on the finger, with a special design that supports the PIP joint while keeping the DIP joint free. It often wraps around the top of the finger to prevent the middle joint from flexing.
