Forearm Brace

Purpose:

• Wrist Immobilization: The primary function of a cock-up splint is to immobilize the wrist while allowing the fingers to move. It holds the wrist in a slightly extended position (cocked up), which is usually about 15-30 degrees of wrist extension.
• Pain Relief and Support: By keeping the wrist in this neutral or slightly extended position, the splint can relieve pressure on the wrist's tendons, ligaments, and nerves, reducing pain and inflammation.
• Facilitate Healing: For certain injuries or conditions, the splint helps immobilize the wrist to prevent further damage, allowing for the healing of soft tissue injuries or fractures.
• Prevent Deformities: In some cases, the cock-up splint is used to prevent deformities by maintaining the wrist in a neutral position, especially after nerve damage or tendon injuries.

Common Conditions Treated:

• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS): This is a condition where the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, causing pain, numbness, or tingling in the hand. A cock-up splint helps by keeping the wrist in a neutral position to reduce pressure on the nerve.
• Wrist Sprains or Strains: It can be used to support the wrist and reduce movement after a sprain or strain.
• Fractures: For certain types of wrist fractures, a cock-up splint is used to immobilize the wrist while still allowing the fingers to move, which is important for rehabilitation.
• Tendonitis and Tenosynovitis: Conditions like De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, where the tendons in the wrist become inflamed, can benefit from the use of a cock-up splint, which helps reduce strain on the tendons.
• Post-Surgical Recovery: After certain wrist surgeries (e.g., tendon repair or fracture fixation), a cock-up splint may be used to protect the wrist and facilitate healing.
• Nerve Injuries: It can be used in cases of radial nerve injury to maintain the wrist in the correct position for recovery.
